If Republicans Were Really Pro-Life...
They’d support women, children, and families—not just force birth.
Republicans claim to be the party of family values and pro-life principles, but if that were true, their policies would actually support women, children, and families. Instead, their actions reveal a party more focused on controlling women’s bodies than supporting their health and well-being.
If Republicans truly wanted higher birth rates, stronger families, and a healthier society, they would prioritize investments in women's health, maternal care, child protection, education, and economic stability. Instead, their policies focus on restricting abortion, criminalizing pregnancy outcomes, and ignoring the systemic issues that actually make it difficult for women to choose motherhood.
Let’s imagine a world where Republicans actually cared about women and children and what they would do differently.

1. They Would Trust Women as Equals in Society
Instead of treating women as second-class citizens, a party that actually values women would trust them as equal members of society, capable of making their own healthcare, financial, and personal decisions.
That means:
Ensuring equal access to education and economic opportunities, including funding for women in STEM and entrepreneurship.
Protecting reproductive freedom, recognizing that women can make decisions about their own bodies.
Expanding access to small business loans for women, addressing disparities in lending practices.
Rejecting government surveillance of pregnancy and menstruation, trusting women to manage their own healthcare.
Instead, Republicans:
Push for surveillance policies like Missouri’s pregnancy registry bill (HB 807), which could track women deemed “at risk” of seeking an abortion.
Propose using menstruation tracker data in abortion investigations, violating women’s privacy.
Undermine women’s economic independence. Women are approved for small business loans at lower rates than men, even though women-owned businesses generate $1.8 trillion in revenue annually.
Ban abortion even in cases of rape, incest, or life-threatening conditions, treating women as less valuable than the fetus they carry.
If Republicans actually cared about women, they would treat them as full, equal citizens, not as incubators to be monitored and controlled.
2. They Would Invest in Women’s Health at Every Stage of Life
Instead of treating women only as vessels for childbirth, a truly pro-life party would recognize that women’s health matters before, during, and after pregnancy. That would mean:
Funding medical research on diseases that primarily affect women, like endometriosis, PCOS, menopause, and autoimmune disorders.
Investing in maternal health research to combat the United States’ shamefully high maternal mortality rate, which disproportionately affects Black and Indigenous women.
Expanding Medicaid postpartum coverage so new mothers don’t lose their health insurance six weeks after giving birth.
Ensuring access to contraception so women can plan their families and reduce unintended pregnancies.
Instead, what do Republicans do?
Defund women’s health research, like Trump’s recent cuts to the NIH’s women’s health initiatives.
Ban abortion and restrict birth control, ensuring more unplanned pregnancies while providing no support for the women forced to carry them.
Criminalize pregnancy outcomes, making pregnancy not just a health concern but a possible legal one.
Ignore maternal mortality, even though American mothers are more likely to die in childbirth than in any other developed country.
If Republicans actually cared about birth rates, they would make pregnancy safer, not more dangerous.
3. They Would Take Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault, and Gender-Based Crimes Seriously
You can’t claim to support families while allowing women to be abused, assaulted, and murdered at alarming rates. Yet, Republican policies consistently fail to protect women from domestic violence and sexual assault.
Here’s what a pro-woman, pro-family party would do:
Fully fund domestic violence shelters so survivors have a safe place to go.
Strengthen laws against intimate partner violence and close loopholes that allow abusers to keep guns.
Clear the rape kit backlog so serial predators can be identified and removed from society.
Increase funding for law enforcement units specializing in sexual violence cases to ensure survivors see justice.
Instead, Republicans:
Refuse to reauthorize the Violence Against Women Act unless protections for LGBTQ+ survivors are removed.
Allow police departments to let rape kits sit untested for decades while rapists remain free.
Ignore the rise in gender-based hate crimes despite data showing an increase in misogynistic violence.
If Republicans cared about women, they would ensure they were safe from violence, not just force them to give birth.
4. They Would Support LGBTQ+ Families Instead of Demonizing Them
LGBTQ+ people don’t just exist in society. They are economic contributors and human beings deserving of protection from violence, discrimination, and hate. They also raise families, adopt children, and contribute to communities. But instead of expanding family protections, Republicans actively attack LGBTQ+ people and limit their ability to adopt and raise children.
Here’s what a real pro-family party would do:
Strengthen laws combating LGBTQ+ violence and discrimination.
Ensure LGBTQ+ parents can adopt and have access to IVF in every state.
Ban discrimination against same-sex couples in adoption agencies.
Protect LGBTQ+ youth from abuse and discrimination, ensuring they grow up in safe environments.
Instead, Republicans:
Pass laws restricting LGBTQ+ adoption, keeping children in foster care rather than letting them live with loving families.
Encourage anti-LGBTQ+ hate speech and policies, leading to an increase in hate crimes.
Ban gender-affirming care for trans youth, even when medical professionals say it is necessary.
If Republicans actually cared about children, they would support all families, not just the ones that fit their narrow definition.
5. They Would Strengthen the Foster Care and Adoption Systems
A genuinely pro-life movement wouldn’t just force women to give birth. It would also ensure that every child born is safe, loved, and supported.
That would mean:
Increasing funding for foster care programs so children aren’t left in overcrowded, under-resourced homes.
Making adoption easier and more affordable, especially for families adopting from foster care.
Ensuring LGBTQ+ couples can adopt, giving more children access to stable, loving homes.
Strengthening child protective services so abuse cases are handled swiftly and effectively.
Instead, Republicans:
Defund child welfare programs while claiming to care about "family values."
Make it harder for same-sex couples to adopt, denying children loving homes based on religious bigotry.
Ignore child abuse in religious institutions, protecting perpetrators rather than victims.
If Republicans actually cared about children, they would invest in their well-being after birth, not just force them into an underfunded foster system.
6. They Would Support Economic Policies That Help Families Thrive
Having children is expensive, and many families delay or avoid parenthood due to financial instability. A pro-family party would make raising children more affordable by:
Raising the minimum wage to a living wage so families can afford necessities without working multiple jobs.
Passing paid family leave so new parents don’t have to choose between work and their newborn.
Making childcare more affordable so parents can stay in the workforce while raising kids.
Expanding the Child Tax Credit, lifting millions of children out of poverty.
Investing in public education to ensure that every child has access to quality schooling and a stable economic future.
Making higher education and job training more accessible, helping parents provide long-term financial security for their families.
Instead, Republicans:
Block every attempt to pass paid leave, leaving the U.S. the only developed country without it.
Refuse to fund universal childcare, making it nearly impossible for working parents to balance careers and parenthood.
Keep wages stagnant, ensuring full-time workers struggle to provide for their families.
Defund public schools hurting children’s futures while funneling taxpayer money into private and religious institutions.
If Republicans actually cared about birth rates, they would make parenting economically feasible, not just force birth at all costs.
The GOP Isn’t Pro-Life. It’s Pro-Control.
Want higher birth rates? Trust women. Support women. Support families.
Otherwise, stop pretending you care. We aren’t your birthing vessels. We are your equals. We are not going back.
