iFixit Teardown Finds Trump Mobile T1 Is Nearly Identical to HTC U24 Pro
iFixit’s teardown of the Trump Mobile T1 has confirmed that the gold Trump-branded smartphone is nearly identical internally to the HTC U24 Pro, turning months of speculation into a clearer consumer-trust problem for one of Donald Trump’s newest brand extensions.
The teardown used CT scans, physical disassembly and parts comparison. iFixit reported that the phones share the same broad internal design, and that a U24 Pro board could be installed inside the Trump phone chassis to create a working hybrid device. The differences it identified were limited, including flash placement, grille changes, memory supplier differences and battery/charging details.
That matters because Trump Mobile’s early pitch leaned heavily on American-made branding. The company later changed its language, with reporting noting a shift away from direct “Made in America” claims toward softer phrasing about American values and innovation.

The teardown does not legally establish fraud. But it strengthens the argument that the phone is less a new domestic manufacturing achievement than a branded version of an existing device.
The reaction online has been sharp. Reddit users compared the phone to past Trump-branded ventures and described it as a rebrand, while tech sites framed the teardown as confirmation that the device is essentially a gold HTC U24 Pro.
The broader context is why this story has legs. Trump University settled fraud lawsuits for $25 million. The Trump Foundation case ended with Trump ordered to pay $2 million over misuse of charitable funds. A New York court also found Trump liable for civil fraud involving business valuations, although the penalty has faced appellate review.
For consumers, the question is simple: what exactly were buyers paying for, new technology, American manufacturing, or the Trump name?
