Illinois Lt. Gov. Stratton Declares ‘Fight’ Against Trump After Primary Win
Illinois Lt. Gov. Juliana Stratton has won the Democratic primary for U.S. Senate, but her victory is already escalating political tensions beyond the race itself.
Stratton defeated better-funded opponents in a closely watched contest to replace longtime Sen. Dick Durbin, according to Reuters and NBC projections. Despite being outspent, she surged late with backing from Gov. J.B. Pritzker and a campaign that leaned heavily into progressive messaging.
The conflict quickly shifted after her win. In her victory speech, Stratton signaled a direct confrontation with former President Donald Trump, saying her campaign would “bring this fight straight to Donald Trump’s front door,” as reported by The Guardian.
Her platform includes abolishing ICE and raising the federal minimum wage, positions that could intensify national political divides heading into November.
While Illinois favors Democrats, the race is now becoming a proxy battle over Trump-era policies and the direction of the party.
Stratton is expected to face Republican Don Tracy in the general election.
