Indiana GOP Senator Who Opposed Trump Map Faced DUI Charge With BAC Over 3× Legal Limit
Indiana state Sen. Mike Bohacek — now under fire from pro-Trump activists for opposing the GOP’s 2026 redistricting plan — previously pleaded guilty to a drunken-driving charge after police recorded his blood alcohol content at 0.28%, more than three times Indiana’s legal limit.

The January incident, which remained out of public view for months because of legislative immunity, began when a witness reported Bohacek stumbling from his vehicle with an open container. Police later pulled him over and transported him to a hospital after he refused a roadside breath test. A subsequent blood draw confirmed the 0.28% reading.
Bohacek was formally charged in June and accepted a plea deal in August 2025. He pleaded guilty to operating a vehicle with a BAC of 0.15 or higher, received a 365-day suspended sentence, was placed on one year of probation, and had his driver’s license temporarily suspended. Other charges were dismissed as part of the agreement.
The renewed scrutiny comes after Bohacek broke with GOP leadership this month and said he would vote against the Republican redistricting proposal. His decision followed backlash over Donald Trump’s use of the slur “retarded” while criticizing a governor. Bohacek, whose daughter has Down Syndrome, publicly condemned the remark and said the language influenced his vote.
Trump-aligned accounts have since circulated Bohacek’s DUI case, calling for him to be primaried and accusing him of disloyalty.
Bohacek has not addressed the new calls for his removal but said earlier this month that derogatory language from political leaders “has consequences.”
