International Space Station Crew Shelters in Spacecraft During Russian Module Leak Scare
NASA instructed astronauts aboard the International Space Station to shelter inside their docked spacecraft and prepare for a possible evacuation as engineers respond to a worsening air leak in the station’s Russian segment. The precautionary order came while Russian cosmonauts attempted repairs in the Zvezda service module, where leaks have been an ongoing concern for several years.
According to Reuters, NASA directed the four-member Crew-12 team to enter their SpaceX Crew Dragon capsule and suit up in case conditions deteriorated. Officials stressed that the move was preventive and that no evacuation had been ordered.

The leak issue has been monitored since 2019 and has repeatedly triggered concerns about the aging station’s long-term health. Previous repairs temporarily reduced pressure loss, but recent data indicated worsening conditions that prompted additional action.
The ISS remains operational while repair efforts continue.
