Iowa Shooting Kills 6 Family Members, Including Students and School Employees
Six people were killed in a series of shootings across Muscatine, Iowa, before the suspected gunman died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to police.
Authorities identified the suspect as 52-year-old Ryan Willis McFarland. Investigators say the shootings occurred at multiple locations and appear to have stemmed from a domestic dispute. Police believe all six victims were family members of the suspect.
The Muscatine Community School District confirmed that two district employees and two students were among those killed, prompting grief counseling services and an outpouring of support from across the community. Superintendent Clint Christopher called the loss “unimaginable.”

A community vigil was held after authorities released the victims’ identities. Residents, school officials, law enforcement, and family members gathered to remember those killed and support surviving relatives.
Police say there is no ongoing threat to the public as investigators continue reviewing evidence from multiple crime scenes.
