Iran Vows to Fight On as Trump Says Ceasefire Is on Life Support
President Donald Trump said the ceasefire with Iran is “on life support” after rejecting Tehran’s response to a U.S. peace proposal, while Iran signaled it would continue fighting rather than accept terms it views as surrender.
Reuters reported that Trump dismissed Iran’s response as “stupid” and said the ceasefire was at its weakest point. Tehran’s counterproposal focused on ending the war broadly, including in Lebanon, while demanding compensation for war damage, sanctions relief, an end to the U.S. naval blockade, guarantees against further attacks, and recognition of Iranian sovereignty over the Strait of Hormuz.
The policy consequence is direct. Trump is using the threat of renewed bombing as pressure for a deal, while Iran is trying to shift the terms toward regional de-escalation, sanctions relief, and control of the waterway at the center of the economic crisis.

The conflict is also spreading pressure across the Gulf. AP reported that the United Arab Emirates said it shot down two drones and blamed Iran. No casualties were reported. Qatar also described a ship attack in the region as a dangerous escalation for maritime trade routes and vital supplies.
Israel’s role is now part of the regional-security picture. The Times of Israel reported that U.S. officials confirmed Israel sent Iron Dome missile-defense equipment and personnel to the UAE, with U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee saying the deployment reflected the UAE-Israel relationship built through the Abraham Accords.
The immediate question is whether diplomacy can keep the ceasefire alive. If talks fail, the next phase could include renewed U.S. strikes, Iranian retaliation, more Gulf drone attacks, and continued disruption around the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important energy and shipping corridors.
