IRGC Gunboats Open Fire on Tanker as Hormuz Closure Reignites Crisis
Iran reopened the Strait of Hormuz, then shut it again within 24 hours, and this time, shots were fired.
According to Reuters, Axios, and the Associated Press, Iranian Revolutionary Guard gunboats fired on a commercial tanker as Tehran reimposed control over the critical oil route. The move came just after President Donald Trump claimed progress toward a deal and insisted Iran “can’t blackmail” the U.S.

The clash follows a U.S. naval blockade of Iranian ports, which Iran says justifies restricting passage through the strait. Western officials confirmed no casualties, but multiple vessels were forced to turn back amid rising risk.
The Strait of Hormuz carries about a fifth of global oil, and markets had briefly reacted to news it was reopening before tensions snapped back.
With both sides escalating while still talking, the situation remains unstable, and highly unpredictable.
