IRS Retiree in Ohio Says She’s Still Waiting for Pension Money Months Later
BATAVIA, Ohio — A retired Internal Revenue Service worker says she’s still waiting on money she’s owed months after leaving the agency, and the delays are hitting her finances now. According to WCPO, Donna Talbott retired after 33 years of service in September 2025 but says she still hasn’t received her pension or unused vacation pay.
Talbott says the unpaid funds have created mounting pressure in recent months as she waits for HR to complete reviews of her paperwork and release her money. Many former federal employees who took early retirement under a Deferred Resignation Program (DRP) are reportedly facing similar holdups, raising concern among workers leaving service.
Talbott told WCPO she was paid through Sept. 30 under the DRP, but since then has seen “not a dime” of the money she says is due, including thousands of dollars in accumulated vacation pay. She said her attempts to get clear answers from HR have not yielded a timeline for payment.

The lack of funds, she said, has forced her to rely on food pantries and tighten her household budget while she waits. Delays in processing retiree payments are not isolated, according to Regina Parker, president of the National Treasury Employees Union Chapter 9, who says staffing issues and federal office cutbacks have slowed HR work.
“I have not received anything. HR is still reviewing,” Talbott told WCPO.
The financial strain highlights broader concerns about how federal retirements are being processed and the impact on workers planning for stable retirement income. Retirees dependent on prompt pension and leave payouts may face unexpected hardship if delays continue.
Advocates want clearer communication and faster processing timelines to prevent similar situations.
What happens next?
Well, that depends on whether the IRS and Office of Personnel Management can accelerate reviews and payment releases for retirees still waiting.
