Jake Reiner Breaks Silence After Brother Charged in Parents’ Killing
Jake Reiner is breaking his silence after the killing of his parents—and the accusation against his own brother.
In a Substack essay, the son of filmmaker Rob Reiner described the aftermath as a “living nightmare,” as the case continues to unfold in Los Angeles.
According to ABC News and Associated Press reporting, Rob Reiner, 78, and Michele Singer Reiner, 70, were found stabbed to death in their Brentwood home in December 2025. Their son, Nick Reiner, 32, was arrested shortly after and charged with two counts of first-degree murder.
Nick Reiner has pleaded not guilty and remains in custody without bail, while prosecutors continue preparing the case, which could carry a life sentence or the death penalty if pursued.

Jake Reiner wrote, “Nothing prepares you for losing both parents—and then learning your brother may be responsible.”
The case has drawn attention not only for its violence but for the rare dynamic of a double homicide within a prominent family, with no confirmed motive publicly established.
Court proceedings are ongoing, with a preliminary hearing expected to determine whether the case will move to trial.
For now, the family remains divided between grief and a legal fight that is far from over.
