January 6, 2025: Certifying a Coup in Progress
Democracy Isn't Dying — It's Being Sold at Auction
America, the Circus Never Left Town
Here we are again. January 6th. The date that will forever be etched in American history as the day democracy stumbled, got kicked in the teeth, and limped away hoping nobody noticed the blood on the floor. Except now, it’s 2025, and the U.S. Congress is set to certify Donald Trump’s return to the presidency—on the fourth anniversary of the Capitol riot that tried to keep him in power the first time.
You’d think someone in Washington would have checked the calendar and said, “Hey, maybe let’s NOT do this on the anniversary of an insurrection.” But no. Because if there’s one thing the American political machine excels at, it’s turning tragedy into theater and theater into tradition.
But let’s not kid ourselves: This isn’t just bad optics. It’s the culmination of a long, calculated process of normalizing political violence and eroding democratic norms. And the kicker? Most Americans aren’t even shocked anymore. We’ve been conditioned to accept this circus as normal.
The American Democracy Illusion
There’s a reason we keep calling it the “peaceful transfer of power.” It’s supposed to reassure us that democracy is strong, stable, and unshakeable. But let’s be honest: The whole system has been wobbling for years, and January 6, 2021, was the moment it officially started to tip.
Yet here we are, four years later, certifying Trump’s victory on the exact same date. The symbolism isn’t just chilling—it’s deliberate. It’s like a corporation celebrating its hostile takeover on the anniversary of the day it crushed the competition.
And the scariest part? We’ve normalized it.
The coup didn’t fail in 2021—it just got rebranded. Instead of storming the Capitol with Viking hats and zip ties, this time it’s happening with suits, ties, and certified electoral votes. The authoritarian playbook has moved from shock-and-awe to slow, methodical erosion.
And most Americans? Too exhausted to care.
They’ve been beaten down by inflation, job insecurity, and the never-ending culture wars. Who has time to worry about democracy when you’re struggling to pay rent or afford groceries? That’s the plan, folks. Keep the masses distracted, exhausted, and divided.
Certifying a Coup with a Straight Face
Let’s talk about the mechanics of this certification process. Vice President Kamala Harris—who just lost her bid for re-election—will preside over the certification of her own defeat. She’ll sit there, stone-faced, as Trump’s victory is read aloud in the chamber. It’s the ultimate ritual humiliation, a reminder that even the losers have to play their part in this grand farce.
And the security? Oh, they’re ready this time.
D.C. is locked down tighter than a billionaire’s wallet. The Department of Homeland Security has designated the event a “National Special Security Event,” putting it on par with the Super Bowl or a presidential inauguration. There are snipers on rooftops, barricades on every corner, and police ready to pounce on anyone who so much as sneezes near the Capitol.
Because nothing says “stable democracy” like needing a small army to count electoral votes.
But the real irony? This time, the Democrats aren’t contesting the results. After spending years warning us that Trump was an existential threat to democracy, they’ve suddenly found their inner zen and decided, “Hey, maybe we should just let this one slide.”
Why? Because they know the fight is over. The system doesn’t serve the people—it serves the powerful.
Follow the Money — Always
If you want to know who’s really running the show, follow the money. The truth is, democracy has been on the auction block for decades. And every time you hear a politician talking about “voter integrity” or “election security,” just remember: They’re not worried about protecting your vote. They’re worried about protecting their own power.
Trump didn’t break the system—he exploited it.
He saw what everyone else refused to admit: that American democracy is a storefront. The elections? They’re a product. The candidates? Brands. And the voters? Consumers. And like any good salesman, Trump knows that selling fear is the fastest way to close a deal.
But it’s not just Trump. The whole political class—on both sides—is in on the con. They keep us arguing about bathrooms, books, and Bud Light while the billionaires loot the treasury. They hand out tax breaks to corporations, strip away workers’ rights, and privatize everything from healthcare to education.
The American Dream? It’s been repo’d.
The Media’s Role in the Circus
And let’s not forget the media’s role in all of this. They LOVE January 6th anniversaries. It’s like Christmas for cable news. Dramatic slow-motion footage of rioters climbing walls, solemn panel discussions with former generals, and enough “BREAKING NEWS” graphics to give you a seizure.
But behind the scenes? They’re cashing in.
Every click, every view, every outraged tweet—it’s all part of the business model. “Democracy in Crisis” is just another genre of entertainment now. The news doesn’t inform you—it sedates you. It keeps you scared, angry, and glued to your screen.
And the best part? They sell you the problem AND the solution.
“Is democracy dying?” they ask.
“Find out after this ad from Pfizer.”
Is Democracy Dead? Or Just on Life Support?
So, where does this leave us? Is democracy dead? Not yet. But it’s definitely on life support—and the people who are supposed to be saving it are busy counting their campaign donations.
The truth is, we’re living in the illusion of stability. The bridge hasn’t collapsed yet, but the cracks are everywhere. And unless we start paying attention to those cracks, it’s only a matter of time before the whole thing comes crashing down.
Because here’s the reality: The system isn’t broken. It’s working exactly as designed.
It was never meant to serve you. It was built to serve the wealthy, the powerful, and the connected. You? You’re just along for the ride.
So, What Now?
So, what’s the solution? Honestly, I don’t have one.
Maybe there isn’t a solution—maybe this is just how empires crumble. Slowly at first, and then all at once.
But if there’s one thing we can do, it’s this: Stop playing their game. Stop letting them distract you with nonsense. Stop letting them divide you. Because the real battle isn’t left vs. right—it’s top vs. bottom. It’s the people who own everything vs. the people who own nothing.
And if we don’t figure that out—and fast?
Well, next time they certify a president, they might not even bother inviting you to watch.
The American Dream is a Rerun
As our good friend George Carlin liked to say, “They keep calling it the American Dream because you’ve got to be asleep to believe it.”
Wake up. The circus is in town—and we’re all stuck in the big tent.

Dorito Grossolini
I’m gonna push back a bit. Both sides are not the same. Since ‘81 it’s the republicans that have slashed taxes and deregulated business so it can take advantage of us workers and hurt the environment. I’m not saying the Dems are perfect, but one party has been trying to help the common folk and one has consistently supported the morbidly rich.
