JetBlue Cuts Routes as Spirit Shutdown Changes the Price of Flying
JetBlue is cutting a group of underperforming routes and ending service at Manchester-Boston Regional Airport as it shifts aircraft toward stronger-demand flying in South Florida.
The move comes after Spirit Airlines stopped flying, removing one of the country’s best-known ultra-low-cost carriers from the market. JetBlue has said affected customers will be notified directly and can choose alternate JetBlue flights where available or receive a full refund.

For travelers, the bigger issue is price. Spirit’s collapse does not mean every plane ticket will automatically get more expensive, but it does remove a major source of low-fare pressure. The Associated Press reported that travelers who relied on Spirit may struggle to find budget alternatives as fuel costs, inflation and consolidation reshape low-cost flying.
JetBlue briefly capped some Fort Lauderdale and San Juan Blue Basic fares at $299, but that relief was temporary.
