Jill Biden’s Ex-Husband Bill Stevenson Indicted on First-Degree Murder Charge
William “Bill” Stevenson, 77, the ex-husband of former First Lady Dr. Jill Biden, has been indicted on first-degree murder charges in connection with the death of his wife, Linda Stevenson, authorities confirmed Tuesday.
The charge raises fresh questions about a late-December incident in Wilmington, Delaware, where law enforcement responded to a reported domestic dispute and found 64-year-old Linda Stevenson unresponsive in the living room of her home. Despite emergency efforts, she was later pronounced dead.
Officials said a grand jury returned the indictment on Feb. 2, and Stevenson was taken into custody without incident. He is being held at the Howard Young Correctional Institution after failing to post $500,000 cash bail.
Investigators have not yet released an official cause of death or a suspected motive as the investigation continues and forensic analysis proceeds.

“This remains an open investigation, and we are working to fully understand the circumstances,” a police official told reporters.
Stevenson and Jill Biden were married from 1970 to 1975, before her later marriage to then-Sen. Joe Biden.
The case has drawn national attention given Stevenson’s past connection to the former first lady, but authorities have stressed that the charges stem from evidence in the ongoing investigation.
Authorities expect to release additional findings from the autopsy and forensic reports in the coming weeks. Court proceedings are scheduled to continue, and Stevenson is awaiting his next hearing.
