Judge Orders 84-Month Prison Term for Long Island Therapist After Child Pornography Conviction
A licensed Long Island child therapist has been sentenced to seven years in federal prison for distributing child pornography.
Renee Hoberman, also known as “Rina,” was sentenced to 84 months Friday in federal court in Central Islip, according to the U.S. Department of Justice.
The sentence was handed down by U.S. District Judge Joanna Seybert in the Eastern District of New York.
Federal prosecutors said Hoberman pleaded guilty to receipt and distribution of child sexual abuse material. The DOJ announcement confirmed the 84-month term but did not detail the volume of material involved in the case.

The case centers on a licensed social worker entrusted with vulnerable children now convicted of federal exploitation crimes.
“This sentence reflects the seriousness of distributing child pornography,” federal officials said in the Justice News release.
The conviction highlights a continuing federal crackdown on online child exploitation cases, particularly those involving individuals in positions of trust. In recent years, prosecutors have emphasized prison time in distribution cases, especially when the defendant held professional credentials tied to child welfare.
