Judge Rules US Overstepped Authority in Trans Youth Care Crackdown
A federal judge has blocked a major federal effort to restrict gender-affirming care for minors, setting up a new clash over who controls medical policy.
According to Reuters and AP reporting, U.S. District Judge Mustafa Kasubhai ruled that federal officials overstepped their authority when they tried to label treatments like puberty blockers and hormone therapy as unsafe and tie them to funding threats.

The policy, pushed under Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., would have cut off Medicare and Medicaid support for providers offering that care. More than 20 states sued, arguing the move bypassed required legal procedures and interfered with state-regulated medicine.
The judge agreed, finding the federal government failed to follow rulemaking law and improperly pressured hospitals. Some providers had already stopped offering care due to fear of losing funding.
Advocates called the ruling a major win, but the broader fight remains unresolved as state-level bans still stand in parts of the country, creating uneven access nationwide.
