Kamala Harris’ Robocall Could Tip Tight Texas Senate Primary for Jasmine Crockett
On March 3, Texas primary voters will decide who gets the Democratic nomination in a marquee U.S. Senate contest that could shape statewide politics this year.
In the Democratic primary, U.S. Rep. Jasmine Crockett and State Rep. James Talarico are locked in a tight, high-stakes battle for the chance to take on the Republican nominee in November.
The campaign has drawn attention from national figures. Former Vice President Kamala Harris recorded a late-breaking robocall urging voters to support Crockett, signaling establishment backing and sending a last-minute jolt of visibility to her campaign as early voting wraps up.

Recent polling from the University of Texas’ Texas Politics Project shows Crockett with a double-digit lead over Talarico, with 56% support to his 44% among likely Democratic primary voters.
Yet the race’s complexion remains competitive. Analysts note some polls and voter models view the Democratic contest as close, with Black and Latino voters pivotal to the outcome.
“It’s the most competitive Democratic primary we’ve had in a long time,” said a Texas political analyst, noting how turnout among key groups could swing the nomination.

Democratic voters haven’t won a statewide race in Texas since the 1990s, underscoring the stakes here. Securing the nomination could position either candidate as a strong challenger to a Republican nominee in a state Republicans have long dominated.
Both campaigns have poured resources into the closing days, with grassroots events, targeted outreach to swing voters of color, and surrogates like Harris attempting to turn out key constituencies.
Results from March 3 will send one Democrat forward to face the GOP in November’s general election, setting the stage for what could be one of the most closely watched Senate battles in the country.
