Livonia Man Accused of Killing Parents, Brother and Brother's Girlfriend as Motive Remains Unknown
A 25-year-old man is accused of fatally shooting four family members inside a Livonia home before surrendering to police, according to authorities.
Officers responding to a residence on Rensellor Street Tuesday evening discovered four victims with fatal gunshot wounds. Livonia Police identified the victims as Sterling Pierce, 58, Holly Kimball, 53, Tanner Pierce, 22, and Tanner Pierce’s 21-year-old girlfriend.
Police Chief Tom Goralski said officers encountered the suspect as they arrived at the scene.
According to the chief, the suspect exited the home with his hands raised and told officers he had shot his family. He was taken into custody without incident.
Investigators said Sterling Pierce and Holly Kimball were found in the backyard. Tanner Pierce and his girlfriend were discovered inside a bedroom of the home.
Authorities have not announced a motive.

“We don’t know why this happened,” Goralski said during a police briefing. Investigators acknowledged there had been a contentious relationship between the suspect and his parents, but police cautioned that they have not determined whether that dispute contributed to the killings.
Police also said they had no prior record of responding to incidents or disturbance calls at the home.
The shooting has stunned residents across Livonia and the broader Detroit metropolitan area. Community discussion online and across local media coverage has focused on the scale of the tragedy and the unanswered questions surrounding what led to the killings.
The suspect remains in custody while investigators continue reviewing evidence and preparing the case for prosecutors. Additional details, including formal charges and court proceedings, are expected in the coming days.
