How you describe another state is kinda important and overly simplistic and derogatory ones just add to existing prejudices and propaganda. That’s all.

Yep, I've been to Russia. Extended stay, during Putin, and the sense of oppression is palpable on the street. We had to register asap upon arrival, be monitored & shuttles to/from airports (involuntarily), daily check ins with a designated person each evening, adhere to warnings about curfews (pretty much after dark), and were frequently reminded to not look too long at any given "police" person (or their mostly militarized version of day-to-day police). Almost every local despised it all, but clearly felt helpless to change anything. Its almost a guarantee its just as bad, if not worse, today as Putin clamps down more and more.
So, please tell us again what it looks like in Russia.
