Melania Trump Faces New Scrutiny Over 2002 Maxwell Email and Party Photos
A newly resurfaced email and old event photos have put Melania Trump back into the Epstein story, this time over what public records do and do not show about her ties to Ghislaine Maxwell and Jeffrey Epstein. The immediate stakes are clear: a fresh denial from the first lady now collides with a paper trail and photo archive that confirm at least some social contact.
The tension is not over whether Melania Trump and Maxwell ever crossed paths. AP reported that recently released Epstein-related files include a 2002 email with cordial language addressed to Maxwell, while Reuters described a Justice Department image showing an exchange that “appears to be” between the two women.
Other records add to that picture. Getty captions place Melania Knauss with Maxwell at a Mar-a-Lago party in Palm Beach on Feb. 12, 2000, and with Maxwell, Donald Trump and Naomi Campbell at a New York event on Nov. 11, 2002.

What those records do not settle is the central question now driving the story: whether the contact reflected a real friendship or only overlapping social circles. That distinction matters because Melania Trump used a rare White House appearance to reject the stronger claim outright.
“I was never friends with Jeffrey Epstein or Ghislaine Maxwell,” Melania Trump said, according to Reuters.
Reuters also reported that Melania said she met Epstein only once in 2000, that Epstein did not introduce her to Donald Trump, and that any email contact with Maxwell was superficial. That leaves the public record showing something narrower but still significant: documented social overlap, a friendly-seeming email, and a dispute over how much those facts actually prove.
What happens next will likely depend on whether more source documents emerge and whether reporters can connect those records to a broader pattern, or confirm that the visible contact never went beyond elite social events in New York and Palm Beach.
For now, the file shows contact, and the denial keeps the argument alive.
