The risk is escalating. In Cheboygan County, authorities warned residents to prepare to leave as water levels near a dam approached critical thresholds, CBS Detroit reported. State officials have already activated emergency operations.
At the same time, forecasters say a massive storm system is still unfolding. More than 130 million people remain in the path of large hail, tornadoes, and additional flooding, according to forecasts cited by the New York Post.
The bigger concern is timing. With repeated rounds of rain and unstable atmospheric conditions, the Midwest could see continued severe weather patterns into the coming days.
