Mike Johnson Faces GOP Revolt Over Senate DHS Funding Plan
The U.S. government’s partial shutdown is dragging on after the House failed to act on a Senate compromise that could reopen key agencies.
At the center of the standoff is immigration enforcement. According to The Guardian and Reuters, the Senate passed a bill to fund most of the Department of Homeland Security but it excludes ICE and parts of Customs and Border Protection.
House Republicans have refused to move that bill forward, instead backing a short-term funding plan that Democrats and the Senate oppose. That deadlock has left thousands of federal workers, including TSA agents, unpaid and strained airport operations nationwide.
Republican leaders, including Speaker Mike Johnson, have signaled possible support for the Senate deal, but no vote has been scheduled.
Meanwhile, President Donald Trump has endorsed a plan to fund immigration agencies separately, adding another layer to negotiations.
For now, the shutdown continues with no clear resolution timeline.
