Mike Johnson Slams Senate GOP “Joke” Bill Excluding ICE Funding
A growing fight inside the Republican Party is spilling into public view as the DHS shutdown drags on, with House conservatives now targeting Senate Republicans.
According to Axios and The Guardian, House Republicans rejected a Senate-passed funding bill because it excluded money for ICE and border enforcement, a top priority for MAGA-aligned lawmakers.
That decision has deepened a shutdown now stretching more than a month, leaving TSA workers unpaid and airports strained.
The conflict escalated after the Senate passed its version and then left Washington for recess, prompting backlash from House Republicans who accused them of abandoning negotiations.
Some conservatives framed the move as a concession to Democrats, who pushed to block ICE funding over enforcement concerns.
With both chambers backing competing bills and neither willing to compromise, the standoff is now less about Democrats vs Republicans and increasingly about Republicans vs each other.
