Minnesota Sues Trump Administration Over Evidence in Deadly ICE Shootings
Minnesota is escalating its clash with federal authorities after filing a lawsuit accusing the DOJ and DHS of withholding evidence in deadly ICE-linked shootings in Minneapolis.
According to AP News and Reuters, the case centers on three January incidents, including the deaths of Renée Good and ICU nurse Alex Pretti. State officials say they were blocked from accessing scenes and critical evidence needed to determine whether crimes occurred.
Federal agencies dispute the claims, saying investigations are ongoing and standard review procedures are in place. But the tension deepened after reports that video evidence may contradict federal accounts of at least one shooting.
The conflict raises a larger question: who has authority when federal agents use deadly force inside a state.
Minnesota officials argue the lack of cooperation could prevent accountability, while federal agencies maintain they are handling the cases internally.
The lawsuit could force courts to decide whether states can compel federal agencies to hand over evidence in officer-involved killings.
