More Than 30 Lawsuits Filed Against GKN Aerospace as FBI Investigates Garden Grove Incident
More than 30 lawsuits have been filed against GKN Aerospace after a chemical tank emergency at the company’s Garden Grove facility forced the evacuation of roughly 50,000 residents and businesses across Orange County.
The legal actions include federal class-action lawsuits and state court cases alleging the aerospace manufacturer failed to safely manage a tank containing thousands of gallons of methyl methacrylate, a highly flammable industrial chemical. Plaintiffs are seeking compensation for evacuation costs, business losses, health concerns, and other damages.

The legal pressure intensified after the FBI and Environmental Protection Agency executed a federal search warrant at the facility. Federal authorities are investigating potential environmental crimes while Orange County prosecutors conduct a separate criminal investigation.
The incident began when a tank overheated and raised fears of a catastrophic explosion. Emergency crews spent days cooling the tank before officials determined the immediate threat had subsided.
The lawsuits and investigations now place GKN Aerospace at the center of one of Orange County’s largest industrial emergencies in recent years.
