At Trump’s first Cabinet meeting on Wednesday, Musk stood at the front of the room, outlined a $1 trillion budget cut plan, and got a round of applause from actual government officials. The White House swears he’s "just an advisor," but if it quacks like a government czar...

And to make things even weirder, the White House announced Amy Gleason as DOGE’s acting administrator. Who’s Amy Gleason? Great question—she was literally in Mexico when they named her. She hasn’t been at any of the high-profile DOGE events, she wasn’t at the Oval Office press conference, Hannity interview or the Cabinet meeting, and her name hadn’t appeared anywhere near DOGE until today. Even she seemed surprised.

One month ago, DOGE was a punchline. Now, it’s controlling the budget, federal oversight, and internal government spending. But sure, let’s all pretend Musk isn’t in charge.
