Nancy Mace’s Trump Breakup Deepens After South Carolina Primary Loss
Rep. Nancy Mace is turning her South Carolina governor primary loss into a punchline, but the joke lands inside a much larger political breakup with Donald Trump.
After finishing fifth in the Republican primary, Mace posted on X that people had asked whether she would get “revenge” on Trump for ending her political career. Her answer: yes, by “adding to the unemployment number in January.”

The remark followed Trump’s decision to endorse Lt. Gov. Pamela Evette, who advanced to a June 23 runoff against South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson. Reuters described the race as a test of Trump’s influence in a state he won by nearly 18 points in 2024.
Mace’s relationship with Trump has swung sharply since Jan. 6, from criticism to renewed loyalty and finally public frustration after his endorsement went elsewhere. AP reported that Mace once branded herself “Trump in high heels,” but later lost Trump’s backing as she pushed for release of Epstein-related files.
