Netanyahu Says Trump Will Require Iran Nuclear Dismantlement in Final Deal
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said President Donald Trump supports requiring Iran to dismantle its nuclear program under any final agreement, as U.S.-Iran talks move toward a possible deal tied to reopening the Strait of Hormuz.
Netanyahu said he spoke with Trump about a proposed memorandum of understanding and that both leaders agreed any final deal must “eliminate the nuclear danger,” including dismantling uranium enrichment facilities and removing enriched nuclear material from Iran.
AP reported that the United States is close to a deal that could end the war, reopen Hormuz and see Iran give up highly enriched uranium, though details and timelines remain unsettled. Iran has not publicly committed to giving up its uranium.
The stakes are both nuclear and economic. Hormuz is central to global energy shipments, and AP reported that reopening it could begin easing a global energy crisis, though recovery could take weeks or months.
