New Fox News Survey: 68% Say Trump Isn’t Focusing Enough on the Economy
A new Fox News poll of registered voters shows Americans are sharply divided on how much time President Donald Trump spends on major issues and by a wide margin want him to shift focus toward the economy.
The survey, conducted Jan. 23–26, 2026, asked voters whether Trump is spending too much, not enough, or about the right amount of time on three key areas. On immigration and border security, 47% of respondents said he spends too much time on it and only 17% said not enough.
Voters’ views were mixed on foreign policy, with a plurality saying his focus there is about right, while on the economy a striking 68% said he’s spending not enough time. Only 8% think he’s focused too much on economic issues.
The poll also shows Trump’s overall approval at 44% with a 56% disapproval among all voters.

“This poll highlights a clear demand from voters to see the president prioritize the economy,” said Republican pollster Daron Shaw, who conducts the Fox News Poll alongside a Democratic counterpart.
The divide on priorities reflects broader tensions in public opinion as Trump heads into 2026, with many Americans urging a rebalancing away from immigration enforcement and toward economic concerns.
The results could influence messaging as Trump and Republican allies prepare for the midterm elections later this year, where economic conditions are expected to be a central issue.
Polling analysts say the next round of surveys will likely track whether these perceptions shift as economic data and policy developments unfold.
What happens next: expect follow-up polling and deeper demographic breakdowns ahead of the November midterms.
