Nick Reiner Charged With Murder in Fatal Stabbing of Parents Rob and Michele Reiner
Nick Reiner, the 32-year-old son of celebrated filmmaker Rob Reiner and his wife Michele Singer Reiner, has been charged with murdering his parents after they were found stabbed to death at their Brentwood, Los Angeles home Sunday. According to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office, Nick faces two counts of first-degree murder with special circumstance enhancements, including the use of a deadly weapon.
The case has shocked Hollywood and the broader community, as the couple was widely known not just for their creative work but for decades of public engagement. Friends and law enforcement sources say the Reiners’ daughter found her parents dead and called authorities Sunday afternoon.
Police tracked Nick to a location near the University of Southern California later that evening and took him into custody. He is being held without bail and has not yet been arraigned.

Investigators have not publicly disclosed a motive, but multiple reports indicate Nick had a long history of addiction and mental health struggles that he openly discussed in the past, including in the 2016 film Being Charlie that he co-wrote with his father.
Friends also told reporters that Nick became disruptive at a holiday party the night before the deaths and had a verbal argument with his father there, though police have not confirmed how or if that contributed to the violence.
Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman said prosecutors will pursue justice for the victims, noting the special allegations could lead to life in prison or the death penalty if Nick is convicted.
The community of Brentwood and colleagues in entertainment have expressed deep sadness over the events, and a memorial for the Reiners is expected to draw notable figures from the film world. Court proceedings in the case are forthcoming as authorities continue their investigation.
Nick’s arraignment is tentatively scheduled once he is medically cleared to appear in court.
