NYC Protesters Target Bezos With “Boycott Met Gala” Posters Before Event
Calls to boycott the 2026 Met Gala are escalating in New York City as backlash grows over Jeff Bezos’ role in funding the event.
According to IBTimes and The Independent, posters reading “Boycott the Bezos Met Gala” have appeared across NYC, targeting the Amazon founder and his wife Lauren Sánchez, who are serving as lead sponsors and co-chairs. Critics accuse the couple of using their wealth to gain cultural influence, while also pointing to past allegations about Amazon’s labor practices, which the company has denied.

The controversy didn’t start this month. Reports confirm backlash began in late 2025 when the sponsorship was first announced, with critics arguing the move breaks tradition and shifts the event away from fashion toward billionaire control.
Anna Wintour has defended the couple, praising their financial support and calling Sánchez a strong addition to the event.
But the tension hasn’t cooled.
With the Met Gala approaching, the boycott push raises new questions about whether celebrities, or the public, will respond, or if the event will proceed unchanged despite mounting criticism.
