Obama Presidential Center Opens Door to Trump Visit After Criticism of Chicago Campus
The Obama Foundation says President Donald Trump would be welcomed for a tour of the Obama Presidential Center after Trump repeatedly criticized the Chicago campus, including calling the project a “disaster” and sharing AI-generated trash-themed images targeting it.
Obama Foundation CEO Valerie Jarrett told USA Today during a June 3 preview that Trump could “judge for yourself” and would be given a tour if he wanted to visit, The Independent reported.
The Center is scheduled to open to the public June 19 after a June 18 dedication. The campus includes a paid museum, a Chicago Public Library branch, public art, landscaped space and other free public areas.
The practical consequence is political and civic: Trump’s criticism has turned a major Chicago opening into a national fight over presidential legacy, cost, design and public access. The Center is privately operated, while official Obama presidential records remain under National Archives control.
