Ohio Secretary of State Hands DOJ Data on Nearly 8 Million Registered Voters
Ohio election officials have handed over voter registration data tied to nearly eight million residents to federal authorities, triggering questions about how the information will be used.
According to reporting from WBNS 10TV, the office of Frank LaRose provided the statewide voter database to the U.S. Department of Justice as part of a federal review connected to election administration and voter registration accuracy.
The dataset covers roughly eight million registered voters across Ohio and includes information such as names, addresses, registration status, and voting history.

State officials say the material is public record and does not include any information about how individuals voted.
But the size of the transfer has sparked renewed debate about voter data privacy and the role of federal agencies in reviewing state election systems.
LaRose’s office said the state routinely cooperates with lawful federal requests tied to election oversight.
The DOJ has not publicly detailed the scope or timeline of the review connected to the records request.
