One Arrested After Damage at VP JD Vance’s Cincinnati Home, Officials Say
One person is in custody after property damage was reported at the Ohio residence of Vice President JD Vance, law enforcement confirmed, and authorities are still probing what happened. The incident in Cincinnati’s East Walnut Hills neighborhood has drawn new scrutiny to security around high-profile officials’ private homes.
Police and U.S. Secret Service agents responded shortly after midnight Monday after reports of property damage at Vance’s personal residence, including broken windows, law enforcement sources said. The Secret Service confirmed a man was detained by agents and taken into custody by Cincinnati Police for causing property damage on the site.
Multiple local outlets identified the suspect as 26-year-old William DeFoor, who according to arrest reports faces charges including vandalism, criminal trespass, and obstruction of official business.
The vice president and his family were not at the home when the incident occurred, a federal law enforcement official told CNN, and preliminary information suggests the individual did not enter the residence itself.

“It happened very quickly, and law enforcement was able to detain the person on site,” a Cincinnati police spokesperson said.
The incident matters because it underscores ongoing security risks for public officials and the complexity of protecting private residences in urban neighborhoods, officials say. Federal, local and U.S. Attorney’s Office investigators are reviewing potential charges and motives.
Authorities are expected to present the case to a federal grand jury later this week and may release more details about the charges against the suspect.
