One Democrat Had Guts. The Rest Had Signs.
Trump pushed lies. Green pushed back.
Al Green knew precisely what he was doing.
When Donald Trump stood before Congress last night, bloated with self-congratulation, calling his electoral win a "mandate," Green—one of the few Democrats in the room with the guts to call it what it was—stood up and fired back.
"You have NO mandate to take Medicaid from my constituents!"
Gasps. Shouts. And then, just like that, Green was dragged out of the chamber, unbothered, unbowed.
Let’s be clear: This wasn’t just about a speech. Green’s TX-9 district in Houston is heavily Black, Latino, and working-class, a place where Medicaid isn’t a handout; it’s survival. The GOP’s proposed cuts would rip healthcare away from millions, including many in his own backyard.
So Green did what every Democrat should be doing right now: He fought back loudly, unapologetically, in Trump’s face.
And what did the GOP do? They cheered as he was kicked out. Some even laughed. Because for them, this isn’t just policy; it’s power. The kind they wield at the expense of the people Green was fighting for.
But here’s the real question: Where was everyone else?
Green wasn’t the only Democrat pushing back, but he was the loudest.
Many of his colleagues chose silent protest instead. Some held signs reading "False" and "Stop Musk," referencing Trump’s lies and Elon Musk's growing government influence. Others, including the Democratic Women's Caucus, wore pink as a symbolic rebuke of Trump’s policies.
It was a message. But was it enough?
For Green, silence wasn’t an option. When a president stands before the country and threatens to gut Medicaid, you don’t just sit there hoping people read your sign. You stand up and fight.
And after being ejected? Green didn't back down. Speaking to reporters, he not only defended his actions but also renewed his call for Trump's impeachment, citing the president's recent statements regarding the Gaza Strip and 34 felonies. This isn't a one-off moment of defiance; it's part of Green's ongoing commitment to holding Trump accountable.
Green is no stranger to this fight. He filed three separate impeachment efforts against Trump long before it was cool. He’s been arrested protesting for civil rights. He’s not waiting for a "better moment" because there is no better moment than right now.
Democrats, take notes. The people want fighters.
And Al Green? He just proved he’s ready for war.
