Part 2! Trump’s Legal House of Cards Collapses: Four Court Defeats in 2 Days
June4th and 5th were not kind to the Trump Administration in court
Earlier today, we reported on the three court cases the Trump administration lost in late May. Now we have even more damaging court days to highlight.
If late May felt like a bad legal week for Donald Trump, June 4th and 5th made it look like a warm-up act.
Just days after federal courts blocked his administration’s tariffs, immigration freezes, and sabotage of public infrastructure, the judiciary struck back again, this time even harder. In one 48-hour span, Trump’s most aggressive plays on education, civic funding, international justice, and immigration were all brought to a grinding halt by the courts.
What unfolded wasn’t just another flurry of legal losses. It was a blistering judicial revolt, and one that sharpened the already growing narrative: Trump’s second-term agenda is repeatedly failing the Constitution’s most basic tests.
This wasn’t judicial overreach. This was the judiciary reasserting its role as the ultimate safeguard against executive abuse.

Case 1: Court Slaps Down Trump’s Political Purge of AmeriCorps
In Thursday’s most notable ruling, a federal judge blocked the Trump administration from defunding AmeriCorps programs in 24 Democratic-led states and the District of Columbia. The judge ruled that the cuts violated the Administrative Procedure Act, citing the administration’s failure to follow basic public notice and comment rules.
Quick Context: While often confused with Job Corps—a vocational training program for youth—AmeriCorps places adults in public service roles, from disaster recovery to education support. Earlier this year, Trump moved to dismantle Job Corps nationwide. However, this new attempt to zero out AmeriCorps was far more targeted. The funding cuts impacted only Democratic-led states.
Interestingly, while the states pointed out the partisan nature of the cuts, their legal challenge focused on a narrower and more winnable issue: that the administration failed to follow the required public notice and comment procedures. The court agreed on procedural grounds and didn’t rule on whether the cuts were politically motivated. But the context speaks volumes.
Legal Impact: Reinforces that even the president can’t bypass legal procedure for political payback.
Political Implication: The court is signaling that the executive branch can’t play favorites—or enemies—with federal services.
We reported on the AmeriCorps attacks earlier this Spring. In this article, we focused on the damage to community emergency response.
Case 2: Trump’s War on Education Halted in Court
If Trump hoped to quietly dismantle the Department of Education, a federal court on Wednesday just made that plan a lot louder and a lot harder.
A U.S. district judge issued an emergency injunction blocking the administration’s effort to lay off more than 1,200 employees and consolidate the department’s functions into the Department of Labor. The court ruled that the executive branch lacked the unilateral authority to gut a cabinet-level department created by Congress without legislative approval.
The ruling also ordered the immediate reinstatement of the fired employees, stating that the cuts caused "irreparable institutional harm" and lacked any legitimate statutory justification.
Legal Impact: Affirms that the president cannot dismantle congressionally established departments without explicit authorization from lawmakers.
Political Implication: Highlights the Trump administration’s deeper project of hollowing out federal agencies it ideologically opposes—and the courts’ willingness to push back.

Case 3: Deporting Without Due Process? Court Says No.
In another blow to Trump’s hardline immigration machine on Wednesday, a federal judge ruled that the administration violated the constitutional rights of 137 Venezuelan migrants deported to El Salvador under the Alien Enemies Act.
The deportees, many of whom had fled political repression in Venezuela, were denied basic due process. Instead of receiving hearings or legal representation, they were rounded up and expelled to El Salvador’s notorious CECOT prison, where many have reportedly faced harsh conditions without trial.
The judge found that the administration’s use of a wartime-era statute to justify these removals “constituted a profound breach of Fifth Amendment protections.”
Legal Impact: Reinforces that even in times of political or security anxiety, constitutional rights are not optional, especially when life and liberty are at stake.
Political Implication: Draws new scrutiny to Trump’s attempt to revive obscure legal tools to bypass immigration norms and raises the specter of a parallel justice system for non-citizens.

Case 4: Judge Blocks Deportation of Boulder Suspect’s Family
In the most emotionally charged ruling of the day, Wednesday, a federal judge issued an emergency order halting the deportation of the wife and five children of Mohamed Sabry Soliman, the man accused in the Boulder, Colorado, firebombing that killed seven.
The Trump administration had moved swiftly to deport the family to Egypt, citing national security concerns. But the judge found the action legally suspect, especially given that the family had not been charged with any crime and faced real danger if returned to a country where dissidents and their relatives are routinely persecuted.
The court emphasized that deporting family members without due process violated both domestic law and international asylum obligations.
Legal Impact: Sets a precedent that the U.S. cannot use guilt by association as justification for deportation without due process.
Political Implication: Reveals how Trump’s immigration enforcement increasingly blurs the line between counterterrorism and collective punishment and how the judiciary is resisting that slide.
The Courts Aren’t Just Speaking. They’re Yelling
June 4 and 5 didn’t just add to Trump’s legal headaches. They marked a sharp escalation in the judiciary’s resistance to a presidency that continues to test the limits of executive power and constitutional patience.
From sabotaging civic programs to deporting families without trial, Trump’s administration has treated legal norms as optional and public institutions as pawns. But the courts, in case after case, are drawing lines, and this time, they’re not budging.
This isn’t judicial activism. It’s constitutional self-defense.
And it’s a reminder that every agency Trump targets, every rule he breaks, and every shortcut he takes will require active, organized resistance —not just in the courts, but also in Congress, in the media, and on the streets.

The Coffman Chronicle screwed up my comment ID. I'm using a cellphone & put in my initials & it sent me to a friend's email, which was put (their initials) over MY comment!
