Personhood for Fetuses—Death Sentences for Women
H.R. 722 erases abortion rights, overrides red and blue state laws, and strips women of their humanity.
The mask is off. They don’t just want to ban abortion—they want to erase women’s personhood entirely.
On January 24, 2025, Congressman Eric Burlison (R-MO) introduced H.R. 722, the Life at Conception Act, a bill that declares fetuses “persons” under the 14th Amendment. The full text hasn’t been released yet, but Burlison’s press release makes no mention of exceptions—not for rape, incest, or even to save a woman’s life.
This bill is a direct pathway to a nationwide abortion ban. If a fertilized egg is legally considered a “person,” then any abortion—at any stage, for any reason—could be prosecuted as homicide. Women with ectopic pregnancies, septic miscarriages, or non-viable fetuses could be forced to suffer, lose their fertility, or die because doctors fear breaking the law. There is no distinction between abortion, miscarriage care, or life-saving pregnancy treatment. It is legislative cruelty disguised as “equal protection.”
How This Destroys State Laws—Even Conservative Ones
H.R. 722 would override every state abortion law, including:
California, New York, Illinois, and Colorado, where abortion is legal—gone.
Florida, Georgia, and North Carolina, where abortion is limited to 6-12 weeks—gone.
Texas, Oklahoma, and Missouri, where bans still allow limited exceptions—gone.
This bill wouldn’t just ban abortion in blue states—it would force red states to go even further, eliminating the few exceptions they still allow. Even a woman sure to die would have no options.
Trump’s Betrayal: From “States’ Rights” to Federal Control
During his 2024 campaign, Trump promised abortion would be left to the states. Now, he’s backing federal restrictions, reinstating the Mexico City Policy (banning foreign aid for abortion providers), and enforcing the Hyde Amendment (blocking federal funding for abortion).
Now, his administration is working hand-in-hand with Project 2025, the extreme conservative blueprint designed to ban abortion nationwide, restrict birth control, and dismantle reproductive healthcare. H.R. 722 is precisely the kind of bill Project 2025 calls for—a federal abortion ban disguised as a constitutional argument.
He lied about keeping abortion a state issue. Now, he’s pushing for federal control.
Women Are Already Dying Under Post-Roe Bans—This Will Make It Worse
Since Roe v. Wade was overturned in June 2022, reports show that abortion bans have already cost women their lives.
Doctors have been forced to delay miscarriage care out of fear of prosecution.
Women have been denied treatment for ectopic pregnancies and fatal fetal anomalies.
Some have lost their fertility due to delayed medical intervention.
Others have died from sepsis or hemorrhage after being denied emergency abortion care.
H.R. 722 would make this suffering mandatory in all 50 states.
If H.R. 722 passes, the government will say a fertilized egg is more important than the woman carrying it. It tells women, “Your life is expendable. Your suffering is irrelevant. The government will decide if you live or die.”
It does not matter if you are bleeding out from a failed pregnancy, writhing in pain from a non-viable fetus, or begging for a doctor to save your life. If this bill becomes law, the answer will be No. You are no longer a person. You are a vessel. And if that vessel has to break, so be it.
This is not dystopian fiction. This is happening right now.
