Pima County Sheriff Uses X to Dispute Kash Patel Claim in Nancy Guthrie Case
A dispute over the Nancy Guthrie investigation is now playing out publicly after FBI Director Kash Patel criticized Pima County officials and Sheriff Chris Nanos pushed back in a statement posted on X.
Guthrie, the mother of “Today” co-host Savannah Guthrie, disappeared from her Tucson-area home more than three months ago. CBS News reported she was last seen Jan. 31 and was reported missing Feb. 1 after she did not appear at church.

Patel said during a podcast interview with Sean Hannity that the FBI was kept out of the investigation for four days. Nanos disputed that account, saying an FBI task force member was at the scene the night Guthrie was first reported missing and that coordination began without delay.
The public disagreement raises a local accountability issue: whether early investigative decisions affected the pace of a still-unsolved Tucson-area case.
