Police Release New Video in Brown University Shooting as Manhunt Enters Third Day
PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Authorities investigating the deadly shooting at Brown University released additional surveillance video and photos on Monday as the manhunt for the suspect entered its third day.
The shooting occurred on the evening of December 13, near Brown’s engineering complex along Hope Street, leaving two students dead and nine others injured, according to Providence police. The campus was placed on lockdown for several hours as officers searched for the gunman, who fled the scene on foot.
Police identified the victims as Mukhammad Aziz Umurzokov, an 18-year-old freshman from Virginia, and Ella Cook, a 20-year-old junior. Nine other students, all between the ages of 18 and 22, were treated for non-life-threatening injuries, including gunshot wounds and injuries sustained during the evacuation.
On Monday, Providence Police and the FBI released new video and still images showing a person of interest captured on surveillance footage near campus approximately two hours before the shooting. The individual is seen walking along residential streets near Brown wearing dark clothing and a beanie. Officials described the footage as distant and grainy, and said the individual’s face is not clearly visible.
Authorities emphasized that the person shown has not been identified or charged, and that the investigation remains active. A person briefly detained earlier in the investigation was released without charges after questioning.

The FBI announced a reward of up to $50,000 for information leading to the identification, arrest, and conviction of the suspect. Officials said the individual should be considered armed and dangerous.
Investigators are reviewing footage from hundreds of campus and city cameras and continue door-to-door canvassing in surrounding neighborhoods. No firearm has been recovered, and police have not released a motive for the attack.
Brown University canceled classes and exams through December 17 and has increased counseling and support services for students and staff. Memorials have been placed near the engineering buildings as the campus community mourns.
