According to the survey, 85% say grocery costs are up, 78% report higher utility bills, 67% say health-care expenses have increased, 66% cite rising housing costs, and 54% say gasoline is more expensive than a year ago. These figures reflect the share of respondents who feel prices have risen — not the size of the price increases themselves.
The numbers align with other national polling that finds roughly seven in ten Americans believe they’re paying more for core necessities. Economists note that food, rent, medical care, and energy remain among the biggest pressure points in household budgets, contributing to negative economic sentiment even as headline inflation has eased from prior highs.
Americans broadly believe their cost of living is still rising, and the economy doesn’t feel more affordable — a reality that continues to shape public opinion and political outlook heading into the new year.
