Pope Leo XIV Warns on AI Power as Vatican Message Spreads Across Catholic and Tech Circles
Pope Leo XIV’s first encyclical is drawing attention across Catholic media, Vatican channels, and tech-adjacent circles after placing artificial intelligence at the center of a global debate over human dignity.
The Vatican’s official text, Magnifica Humanitas, warns that AI cannot be treated as only a business or technical issue. The document connects AI to work, misinformation, digital power, warfare, and moral responsibility.

The social signal around the document is now visible. The pope’s official account posted the encyclical, Vatican News amplified Leo’s call for AI to serve humanity, Catholic journalists highlighted the release, and tech figure Jack Dorsey shared the Vatican text.
The strongest policy consequence is the encyclical’s warning that AI must not be left solely to market incentives, military pressure, or Big Tech control. Chris Olah of Anthropic, who appeared at the Vatican launch, also called for AI to be guided from outside the tech industry.
