Pornhub Cuts Off Missouri Users as State’s New Age-Verification Law Takes Effect
Missouri — Missouri residents opening Pornhub today were met with a shutdown notice instead of the site’s usual homepage. The adult-content giant has disabled access statewide, citing Missouri’s new age-verification law that took effect November 30.

The rule, enacted by Attorney General Catherine Hanaway, requires adult websites to verify a user’s age before granting access. Missouri’s regulation goes further than most: it encourages device-based identification rather than traditional ID uploads. The Attorney General’s office argues the system will better protect minors, but platforms say it creates major privacy and security risks.
Pornhub responded by blocking Missouri IP addresses entirely. The company’s message warns that the state-mandated verification system is not only ineffective but “puts children and your privacy at risk.” The platform has taken similar actions in Texas, Louisiana, Utah, and other states with strict verification laws.
Missouri’s rule does not ban pornography. Adults can still legally view adult content, but the burden is on websites to verify age. Many major platforms, including Pornhub’s parent company, have chosen to pull service instead of collecting sensitive IDs that could expose users to data breaches or government tracking.
Internet-safety analysts say the move could push users toward smaller, unregulated, or offshore websites with fewer protections — the exact opposite of the law’s intended effect.
For now, Missouri residents opening Pornhub will find the site locked down, with the company urging users to contact their elected officials and demand privacy-safe verification methods.
