Putin Faces New Fallout After U.S. Officials Link Russia to Iran Targeting Intel
Russia’s reported role in the Iran conflict just got harder for Washington to dismiss.
CBS News reported Friday that Russia is providing Iran with intelligence about U.S. positions, citing three sources, including a senior U.S. official with direct knowledge. The Washington Post separately reported that the information included the locations of American warships and aircraft in the Middle East, and Reuters echoed that account.
That matters because the allegation moves Moscow from political backing toward potential operational help as the U.S.-Iran war widens. Reuters reported the same day that President Donald Trump was demanding Iran’s “unconditional surrender,” raising the stakes around any outside support reaching Tehran.

The Kremlin has not publicly admitted to sharing targeting data. Peskov said only that Russia is in “dialogue” with Iran’s leadership, while other reporting said Moscow has publicly cast the conflict as outside its war.
The bottom line is that the intelligence claim is now backed by multiple major outlets, but the full scope of Russia’s role remains unverified in public.
