Reuters Poll: 43% Disapprove of U.S. Strikes on Iran, Just 27% Support
President Trump’s job approval was already weak heading into early March, and newly released polls show his public standing didn’t get a bump from the surprise U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran.
According to the Economist/YouGov poll from Feb. 20–23, Trump’s approval sat under 40% and disapproval topped the mid-50s — among the lowest net ratings of his second term. Around the time of the initial Iran attacks, Reuters/Ipsos found only about 27% of Americans approved of the strikes while 43% opposed them. YouGov snap polls show similar patterns of more disapproval than support for the military action. Even some Republican voters are less unified behind the conflict than in past wars.
Most Democrats and independents oppose the Iran strikes, while Republicans are more supportive. Other polling suggests more Americans think Trump uses the military too readily than think he was justified. Public skepticism about the war’s objectives and its impact on Trump’s overall approval adds uncertainty heading into the 2026 midterms.
