San Diego Officer Federally Indicted in Child Exploitation Case Involving Minor Victims
A San Diego police officer has been charged in federal court with five child exploitation-related offenses involving three minor victims, according to federal prosecutors.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of California said a grand jury indictment against Brandon McGibbon, 33, was unsealed in San Diego. Prosecutors said the alleged conduct occurred between Oct. 25 and Nov. 6, 2025, and involved attempted receipt and production of child sexual abuse material and attempted enticement of minors.

The case has drawn local attention after coverage spread across regional social media posts from San Diego news and community accounts. That attention adds to the public-trust stakes because McGibbon was an SDPD officer at the time of the investigation.
NBC 7 San Diego reported that SDPD said McGibbon was suspended and stripped of police powers after the department learned of the investigation.
The charges are allegations, not a conviction. McGibbon is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
