Secret Service Kills Armed Man Who Breached Mar-a-Lago Security Early Sunday
A man in his early 20s was shot and killed early Sunday morning after an unauthorized breach of the secure perimeter at former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida, according to the U.S. Secret Service.
Law enforcement officials say the incident raises fresh questions about security at high-profile sites and the motives behind late-night breaches on protected properties.
According to a detailed briefing from the Secret Service, the man drove through the north gate of the Mar-a-Lago property around 1:30 a.m. as another vehicle was exiting. He was observed near the gate carrying what authorities described as a shotgun and a fuel can, and had been reported missing from North Carolina days earlier.

When confronted by two Secret Service agents and a Palm Beach County sheriff’s deputy, officials say the man was ordered to drop his items. He allegedly put down the fuel can but then raised the shotgun toward officers, prompting them to fire.
“No Secret Service or sheriff’s deputy personnel were injured,” a spokesperson said, and no protectees were present at the property at the time.
Investigators are now seeking surveillance footage from nearby residents and working to establish a motive and psychological profile of the individual involved.
“It’s standard procedure to place involved agents on administrative leave during an investigation,” a law enforcement official stated.
The shooting highlights ongoing challenges for security officials protecting prominent sites amid a series of high-profile violent incidents in recent years.
Authorities say motive remains unclear and the investigation is active.
