Sherwood Speed Cameras Record 1,045 Drivers Ahead of Citation Deadline
SHERWOOD, Ore. — New mobile speed cameras on Southwest Oregon Street have already flagged 1,045 drivers traveling at least 11 mph over the posted speed limit, according to local reports citing Sherwood police.
The cameras began operating May 25 as part of Sherwood’s expanded photo enforcement program. For now, drivers are receiving warnings, not fines. That changes after the city’s warning-only period ends June 22, when citations can begin for qualifying speeding violations.
The city says the mobile units are being used in residential areas and school zones, with advance warning signs, speed display boards, police review of citations, and public updates when cameras move.
The practical consequence is straightforward: drivers who ignore the warning period could soon face municipal court citations and fines starting at $165 for standard speed violations. The program also creates a broader test of whether mobile enforcement can slow traffic on streets where residents have complained about speeding for years.
