Student Struck by SUV at Fremont High Anti-ICE Protest, Police Locate Driver
A high school student in Fremont, Nebraska was hit by a vehicle during a student-led protest against Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Thursday, authorities confirmed, raising urgent questions about protest safety in the community.
Video from News Channel Nebraska shows a red SUV displaying a Trump campaign flag striking the student outside Fremont High School at about 2:30 p.m., then leaving the scene shortly after the collision.
Fremont Public Schools officials said the demonstration was not school-sponsored but that administrators were nearby to ensure it remained safe and peaceful. At one point, a group of students walked into the street, and a student was struck by the vehicle that had stopped in front of the protest before moving forward.
The student was transported by paramedics to a local hospital; initial reports indicate she was alert and able to communicate with first responders.
Fremont Police later located the driver, identified as a juvenile, and the Dodge County Attorney’s Office says it is reviewing all evidence before deciding whether to pursue charges in the apparent hit-and-run.

“This is not what we do in Nebraska … The incident needs to be fully investigated by law enforcement,” said Rep. Mike Flood, who condemned the event and emphasized the importance of safe protest rights.
The incident highlights growing tensions at school protests tied to national immigration debates and raises questions about how law enforcement and school officials can better protect students exercising First Amendment rights.
Officials say the investigation remains ongoing, and authorities will update the community as more information becomes available.
