Supreme Court Crushes Trump Tariffs as 60% of Voters Approve
President Donald Trump faced a fresh political blow this week as new polling shows his tariff policies are hurting his public standing. Approval of the Supreme Court’s decision to strike down his signature trade tariffs is now a majority view, according to recent YouGov data.
A YouGov survey of roughly 1,931 U.S. adults revealed 60% approve of the Supreme Court’s 6–3 ruling that Trump exceeded his authority by imposing broad tariffs without congressional approval. At the same time, 66% of respondents said those tariffs increased the prices they pay for goods.
The high court’s decision triggered sharp reactions. Trump publicly denounced the justices, even those he appointed, as critics of his economic strategy. He then moved quickly to raise global tariffs up to 15% under a different trade statute, claiming the action stays within legal bounds.

“It’s deeply troubling that unelected judges can overturn policies that are vital to American economic strength,” said a White House economic adviser.
The new polling data underscores political trouble for the president as the cost-of-living becomes a central voter concern, particularly with midterm elections looming. While GOP strategists argue tariffs protect domestic industries, broader public sentiment shows mounting skepticism about their economic benefit.
Analysts say the numbers could shift how both parties address trade and inflation in campaign messaging, especially in swing districts where consumer costs are top issues. Continued polling and economic data will likely shape the next phase of debate over U.S. trade policy.
