Supreme Court Denies Florida Bid to Sue California and Washington Over CDLs
The Supreme Court rejected Florida’s attempt to sue California and Washington over commercial driver’s licenses issued to immigrant truck drivers, ending the state’s direct case at the nation’s highest court for now.
The decision blocks Florida’s lawsuit but does not resolve whether California or Washington violated federal commercial-driver licensing rules. The Associated Press reported that Justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito dissented from the Court’s refusal to hear the case.

Florida’s case followed a fatal Florida Turnpike crash involving Harjinder Singh, an Indian national who had held a California commercial license and previously received one from Washington, according to AP.
The issue already carried social-media energy before the ruling. Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier promoted the lawsuit on X, where the post drew hundreds of replies.
The practical result: Florida lost this legal path, but the fight over immigration status, English-language rules and who gets to drive commercial trucks across state lines is not over.
