Susan Collins Trails Democrat Graham Platner by 7 Points in New Maine Senate Poll
A new poll suggests Susan Collins may face a competitive 2026 reelection race in Maine. The numbers shift sharply depending on which Democrat becomes her opponent.
According to a survey released by Quantus Insights, Democratic candidate Graham Platner currently leads Collins in a potential general election matchup.
The poll shows Platner ahead 48.6% to 41.8% among likely voters. The survey sampled 800 voters from March 3–5 and reported a margin of error of ±3.5%.
But the numbers look very different if Janet Mills becomes the Democratic nominee.
In that matchup, Collins leads Mills 44.6% to 43.0%, putting the race well within the margin of error.

The pollster said the survey included “800 likely voters statewide,” according to Quantus Insights.
The same poll also suggests a competitive Democratic primary could shape the race before the general election even begins.
Platner leads Mills 43.3% to 38.8% among Democratic primary voters in the survey, a result that could complicate the party’s path to challenging Collins.
The Maine Senate race is expected to be closely watched nationally as Democrats look for pickup opportunities and Republicans defend incumbents.
More polling and potential candidate announcements are expected in the coming months as the 2026 cycle develops.
